Mes Histórico de la Afrodescendencia: I Encuentro Afrocostarricense de Artes visuales

by several artists

As August is for the celebration of people from African descent in Costa Rica, we want to highlight the amazing work of some Afro-Costa Rican visual artists.

In October 2019, Atizay held the I Encuentro Afrocostarricense de Artes Visuales in Costa Rica. This gathering was a space to showcase and celebrate the underrepresented Costa Rican afro art community in artistic spaces.

We had the honor to exhibit the following artists’ artworks at the Museo Del Jade:

(Artworks from left to right)

Whitney Oguilve Solís (Printmaking)

Queen Nzinga Maxwell (Painting)

Gregory James Willis (Photography)

Naomy Luna Madrigal (Photography, Drawing)

Francis Quesada Oses (Painting)

The exhibit also included photographs of the Haitian artist, Alain Lescouflair (Photography).

Stop by Atizay’s blog for a recap of last year’s gathering.
