Francesca Désulmé's Identity Collection
Francesca Désulmé is a multidisciplinary artist who was born and raised in Haïti.
At a young age, Francesca was exposed to various forms of art, from paintings in her home to the craftsman’s work in the streets of Port-au-Prince, and the vibrant colours of wall graffitis, as well as the diversity of vendors at art festivals. What started as curiosity as a child turned into a deep passion for crafting and a long-standing dream to create art.
In 2020, Francesca officially launched Koukatelier, an arts and crafts online shop. Doing this in the midst of a pandemic and racial injustice was a way to bring some light and joy into people’s daily lives. Koukatelier is a space for creativity, freedom and expression of self.
About Francesca’s Identity Collection in her own words:
dgdg
<< I am a strong believer of creating art for a purpose: expressing emotions, shining a light on an issue, or empowering and reminding each other of our worth. The inspiration for this came at a time when my girlfriends and myself were feeling low and needed the boost. I named this collection "Identity", because to me, each quote, each feminine figure depicts an aspect of who we are as resilient black women. Sometimes, we simply need to hear or repeat to ourselves ‘You matter. You got this. Stay strong.’>>
