5 Art-related netflix films you can enjoy during social distancing

Laerte-se
From family acceptation to body changes, this Netflix film dives deep into several aspects of gender-related issues through the journey of the very well-known Brazilian cartoonist and screenwriter, Laerte Coutinho, as a transgender woman. While answering very personal questions, she explains how she used her comic strips to explore this new identity when she was not yet ready to embrace it in real life.

Even though this film is not directly related to art, it tackles a subject relevant to all artists: human creativity. In this production, neuroscientist, David Eagleman, explores the creative process of several professional innovators who teach us a great lesson: creativity rarely sparks in the warm safety of our comfort zone.
Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski
If you’re down for a little bit of history and getting to know more artists, you will enjoy this one. This documentary tells the life story of Polish artist, Stanislaw Szukalski, a self-taught sculptor and painter, who was declared Poland’s greatest living artist in 1936, but had to leave almost all of his work in Poland during the siege of Warsaw to find refuge in the U.S. embassy. Unfortunately, his artworks were either lost in the bombing attacks or destroyed by the occupying Germans.
