Exploring Life Through Art & Color with Sophia Dubuisson

Sophia Dubuisson.

Sophia Dubuisson.

She goes by Phia and is a multimedia artist majoring in Psychology currently based in Boston. Her passion for art started at a very young age. She took her first art classes at Le Centre d'Art in Haiti. Ever since, she has been trying out different art styles and mediums.

She has worked with acrylic and oil paint, as well as colored pencils, pastels, and resin. She recently discovered her love for resin and started making sets of dominos from scratch.

What is the most rewarding thing about being an artist?

It might sound naïve but what I love about being an artist is that my mind has been trained to see beauty in everything. Being able to capture what I think is beautiful, meaningful and sharing it with people is a blessing.

Where do you find your inspiration when you are creating?

I find inspiration everywhere. But my main source of inspiration is myself. Through my art I express myself. Life is inspiring, from the first thing I hear, smell, feel during the day to the last of these emotions.

From painting to resin, you dabble in different mediums. Which one do you enjoy the most?

I don’t like playing favorites, but there is a special place in my heart for painting. I love colors. I love how painting can teach me a lot about life. Painting taught me that nothing is ever permanent; a fat coat of gesso and you can start brand new.

What has been the proudest moment for you as an artist in the past years?

I have a few memorable moments. Last summer, I got nominated for an award by one of my professors and it felt amazing that somebody higher ranked in the art world chose my painting to nominate. Definitely one of my proudest moments

What is next for Phia art?

Just recently I’ve got my first art studio and from there, I think that my next step is making a name for myself in Boston and expanding to other states and maybe go international.
