The Salt Of The Earth
After watching The Salf Of The Earth we couldn’t help but be brutally reminded of our human responsibility to stay aware and take part in the changes that will make the world a better place for humanity. The Salt Of The Earth is a documentary that explores the life and photography work of award-winning photographer Sebastião Salgado who has a very emotional way of telling human stories.
It's a very sensitive and captivating storyline that follows Sebastião in his social photography journey around the world. This documentary covers his exploration of different human experiences, from the working conditions of mine workers in Brazil, to the genocide in Rwanda, and the poor life conditions of a lot of people around the world. After replanting a tropical forest in Brazil, which later became Instituto Terra, he decided to explore wildlife photography and also started capturing the lifestyle of several indigenous tribes unaffected by Western culture.
It's hard to describe the power and rawness of his pictures in words. His black and white glimpses into human condition are both breathtaking and heart-breaking. It takes great courage to tell such transparent stories while exposing yourself to the danger and pain of witnessing such terrible events and realities. There is no doubt Sebastião Salgado is an amazing storyteller. He also shows us how the damage we've been doing to our ecosystem can still be reversed! We just have to get to work now.
The way he interacts and relates with his photography subjects is fascinating and reveals a very sensitive man. Hearing him talk about his work and what was happening behind the scenes of his photography explorations adds more realness and emotion to this privileged way of experiencing some of humanity's most powerful moments.
